Prostitution’s illegality in Russia causes a lot of issues for sex workers, including violence, social vulnerability and the spread of HIV. There are several organizations in Russia that bring sex workers, their supporters and families together. One of them is Silver Rose, based in St. Petersburg.
Since 2003, Silver Rose has provided access to health services for all categories of people involved in sex work. Irina Maslova, founding member and executive director of Silver Rose gives a tour of the organization that fights for the sex worker’s rights every day.
